When someone has lost a loved one, receiving white flowers can be very comforting, because it shows that they are not alone during the time of mourning.  Flowers that have toned hues and soft pastel and white colors are much better for funerals than those dazzling and loud tones.

White Funeral Flowers – Show Your Condolences

The flower arrangements for a funeral can be made up of any flower you choose – the most popular being white for funeral. It would be a good idea to choose the type of flower that was special to the loved one that passed away. For example, if the individual who is deceased loved roses, then that is what the funeral flower should be.

The Different Flower Patterns

There are different types of flower patterns that can be used for the funeral. The arrangement you choose can be made up of any flower of your choice and any color (most people choose white flowers). Some popular flower patterns include:

Basket Flowers – these types of flower patterns vary in colors and size. Basket flowers are usually in the form of a basket, making it easy to carry to the funeral service and grave. These type of flower patterns are usually given by relatives and friends.

Casket Spray – The casket spray is another popular pattern. They are the larger floral arrangements that you see on top of the casket during the ceremony. This pattern can be used wherever the funeral is being held, no matter if it is in a church, at a funeral home or at the gravesite. This pattern is usually chosen by family members who are making plans for the funeral arrangements.

Funeral Cross –This pattern is normally given to Christian families and is common in funerals that are held in churches. With this pattern, flowers of different types and colors are woven into a Styrofoam cross.

Funeral Wreaths – This pattern is usually available in a circular shape, but hearts are also available. Senior members in the family are usually the ones who give funeral wreaths.  The funeral wreaths are usually made up of white flowers, sometimes intertwined with green leaves. White funeral flowers are viewed as a tribute to others.

The Most Common Funeral Flowers

The most common type of funeral flower would be Chrysanthemums. These flowers are available in a variety of colors, including white. Chrysanthemums symbolize loyalty and devotions, which is why they are great to use at a funeral of a close family member or friend.

Roses are another common flower, available in white, red, pink and a variety of other colors. Many individuals choose to use white roses, because white is the symbol of simplicity and peace.

Some cultures also choose to use Marigolds as a funeral flower. Some cultures believe that marigolds comfort the heart and help the soul rest in peace, which is why they deliver baskets of Marigolds to the funeral.

Gladiolus is another common flower that is found in sympathy arrangements.  With their sword shaped leaves, they resemble lilies and are available in a variety of colors. These flowers are a symbolic meaning of honor, remembrance and faithfulness, which is why they are great to use for funeral arrangements.

For centuries now, people have offered flowers as a tribute to the deceased.  Picking out the floral arrangements may not be easy, but the flowers you choose will lighten up the room.
